Another woman’s trash is one woman’s treasure

A little while ago my council had it’s annual hard rubbish collection. Mr C and I had been looking forward to this for the whole year as we missed the last one and we had so much hard rubbish it was unbelievable. You couldn’t move in our shed for all the rubbish we had. So we were incredibly excited to finally get rid of all our rubbish. But there is another reason I love hard rubbish. All the amazing things people put out in their hard rubbish. Some of the stuff is brand new but for a girl who loves old beaten up furniture hard rubbish is like a dream come true. (I swear Mr C wont buy me a bigger car for fear I’ll bring home even more rubbish.) But this year it really was an absolute dream come true. For as long as I can remember I have wanted an old vintage bike. You know the type with the basket on the front, the type that cost an arm and leg so as you can guess with a family my wish for a bike has always come in last to school shoes and mouths to feed. But no longer because driving along I spotted from a mile away an old retro looking bike on someone’s hard rubbish pile. My indicator went on and I screeched into the driveway to then spend half an hour trying to get the 27″ bicycle into my car. But I succeed! Yes I had to drive home sitting on top of the steering wheel and little princess was all squished in too. But I was jumping for joy.

And this is what I bought home. Isn’t it awful. Completely ridden with rust, flat, cracked tyres and the basket was so bad I left it on the hard rubbish pile.

I was bursting with excitement to show Mr C my latest find. And he couldn’t believe it he was so stunned . . .  with shock horror, I believe his eyebrows hit his hair line when he surveyed the rust and tyres.

We made a deal that if it wasn’t ride-able by next hard rubbish it would go on our hard rubbish but . . . In less then a month I have cleaned, fixed and spruced up my now very lovely ladies vintage bicycle.

B and I have spent the holidays riding around town having an absolute ball we even got little princess her own little seat and helmet and she comes with us too now. We rode to school for the first time today and the plan is to do this more often then drive.

I love with my bicycle!!!
